Adolescents' Action for Transformation in Myanmar (AATM) Program
Program Overview
Adolescents are powerful agents of change today. Through the Adolescents' Action for Transformation in Myanmar (AATM) Program, Itthiya Foundation works alongside adolescents to strengthen their leadership, promote gender equality, and create opportunities for meaningful participation in shaping peaceful, inclusive, and resilient communities. The programme supports adolescent girls, boys, and gender-diverse young people, particularly those affected by conflict, displacement, and social inequality, to build knowledge, confidence, and collective action.
Grounded in a commitment to youth-led participation, intersectionality, and trauma-informed practice, AATM equips young people to challenge injustice and transform systems of inequality for themselves and others.
Our intervention operates on a clear developmental logic: IF we enhance rights awareness, strengthen capacity for civic engagement, build leadership skills, and promote holistic well-being, THEN adolescent girls and gender-diverse youth will gain the agency and resilience required to spearhead feminist action and make informed decisions. BECAUSE when adolescents are equipped with knowledge, supported by safe environments, and recognized as capable actors, they successfully challenge structural inequality and transform their communities.
Program Goal
To ensure that adolescents have the power, agency, and well-being to make informed decisions, lead collective feminist action, challenge injustice, and realise their full potential.
What we do
The AATM Program drives transformative change by channeling support into three core priority areas, combined with a commitment to youth-led action, self-determination, and holistic protection:
Rights and Engagement
We increase adolescents’ awareness of their fundamental rights including Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), civic rights, the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), and the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR).
We strengthen their capacity to engage meaningfully in civic and social spaces, ensuring their voices actively shape decisions that impact their lives and communities.
Leadership and Agency
We build the confidence, core skills, and platforms necessary for adolescents to step into roles as active change agents.
We champion youth leadership and self-determination, enabling them to lead transformative actions, improve positive outcomes within systems, and influence structural change at all levels of society while increasing the visibility of adolescents in shaping change.
Safety and Well-being
We promote the holistic well-being of adolescents by prioritizing physical and mental safety, creating secure, supportive, resilient, and healing environments free from violence, pain, and harmful social norms.
We ensure adolescents are fully supported to thrive emotionally, physically, and mentally as they realize their full potential.
